Split Web: Building routines just got easier

Split Web: Building routines just got easier

The evolution of Split

Split 1.2 brought big changes. Some I covered in Split 1.2, lifted by the community. Since then, a few updates have added small improvements and bug fixes. But there's one update that stands out: the Web Routine Builder.

It's a simple way to create, edit, and share your routine with friends, clients, or directly to your app.

From export to sharing

When Split first launched, you could export your routines as JSON or XLSX files. The XLSX was the human-readable version. The JSON was for sharing and importing back into the app.

It worked. It was simple and efficient, true to Split's philosophy. But I kept thinking: it should be even simpler. Sharing shouldn't require downloading files, emailing them, and importing them manually. It should be one click to share, one click to import.

Split 1.2.5 solved that. Now you can generate a shareable link for any routine and send it directly to anyone. No files. No friction.

And as always with Split, privacy is non-negotiable. Your routines stay between you and the people you share the link with. No authentication. No database. No tracking.

If the person already has Split installed, the link opens the app directly and prompts them to import. One click to generate the link, one click to import. Done.

But what if they don't have the app yet?

They get redirected to the Split website with two options: install the app, or view the routine in the browser.

Clicking "View Routine" takes them to the Web Routine Builder.

Building on a big screen

The Web Routine Builder works exactly like the one inside Split. Same UI. Same simplicity. Same familiarity.

You create your PPL routines just like you would in the app, but on a big screen where you have more space to work. Add exercises, set your reps and weights, organize your days. When you're happy with it, you can download the routine to import into the app, or generate a link to share.

Design custom workout routines on the web, export to JSON or CSV, and import directly into the Slipt app.

The best part: everything is saved locally in your browser. Your routines are 100% private. No database. No account. You come back later, edit them, redo them, it's all yours.

And if someone opens a routine from a shared link, the builder loads with all their exercises, sets, and reps already filled in. They can see exactly what the routine looks like before deciding to download the app.

Why this matters

This isn't just a convenience feature. It's about removing barriers.

Before, sharing a routine meant friction. Now it's one link. Before, building on a phone screen was cramped. Now you can plan on a laptop. Before, someone had to install the app to see what you'd built. Now they can preview it in the browser.

Split started as an app for yourself. Now it's becoming a tool you can share with others. And that matters.
